Argonne National Laboratory Assistant Computer Scientist - Runtime System Software in Lemont, Illinois

Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for the position of Assistant Computer Scientist – Runtime System Software. In this role you will conduct research and development in runtime and communication software for large scale and heterogeneous computing systems. Contribute as a member of the programming models and runtime systems group and participate in the development and advancement of a widely used, award-winning communication library. You will have the opportunity to run on advanced computing hardware, including the latest supercomputing systems and upcoming exascale systems, and collaborate with other research scientists and projects at Argonne.

Position Requirements

  • Experience with conducting research in academia, industry, or a national laboratory setting.

  • Knowledge and experience with high-performance computing, parallel and/or distributed computing.

  • Significant programming experience is required, preferably in C or C++.

  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work within a diverse and multidisciplinary environment.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Experience with research and development related to MPI or other distributed memory programming models, OpenMP or other threading models, or accelerators such as GPUs.

This position can be hired at one of two levels, and the requirements for each are as follows:

  • RD2: Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience, or PhD, or equivalent

  • RD3: Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or PhD + 4 years of experience, or equivalent
