The Buildings and Environment Group within the Center for Energy, Environmental, and Economic Systems Analysis in the Energy Systems Division at Argonne conducts fundamental and applied science and engineering for systems in the built environment. The group is looking for a postdoctoral appointee to conduct research and analysis primarily in building energy modeling but who will also have the opportunity to work in related fields such as building science, urban science, and uncertaintyquantification.

The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in the development of tools and technologies for building energy modeling, building science, building-to-grid integration, and urban science. Specific projects will involve the development and deployment of physics-based and data driven tools and methods for modeling and assessing for building systems, whole buildings, energy systems, and coupled urban systems and analysis using the tools. Communicates impactful research outcomes through internal reports, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations.

The candidate is expected to have a strong engineering background with demonstrated experience in building science and building energy modeling and will communicate impactful research outcomes through the release of software tools, internal reports, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations.

  • PhD in architecture, architectural engineering, mechanical engineering or related field
  • Research experience in building science and/or building energy modeling
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
