The Computational Science Division (CPS) provides intellectual and technical leadership in computational sciences. To this end, we tackle the most important scientific problems of our nation — problems that require innovative tools and technology for transformative science during the next several decades.
At CPS we seek a postdoctoral research associate who will develop turbulence modeling capabilities for high Reynolds number turbulent flow simulations with Nek5000, and validate the newly developed turbulence models on some of the most powerful high-performance computing platforms. This work will include collaborative research and development of Nek5000 and dissemination of the results to the community by way of presentations and peer reviewed publications. The incumbent will work with a multi-institutional group.
Ideal candidates are expected to have:
- A Ph.D. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering (earned within the last three years) with focus on turbulence modeling and simulation.
- Experience with spectral element methods; especially with the Nek5000 flow solver.
- Experience with massively parallel computations on high-performance computing systems.
- Experience with modeling turbulent flows in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL).
- Ability to conduct independent work, as well as working together in a team.
- Experience with CFD code development (as opposed to just running a code).
- Experience with parallel programming using MPI.
- Significant experience in a high-level programming language (e.g., C, C++, Fortran).
- Experience in the Linux/Unix programming environment.
- Experience with high-performance computing systems.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
In addition, candidates should show:
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to creative solutions to complex problems.
- Good collaborative skills, including the ability to work well with other labs, universities, computing centers, and industry.
- Good ability to keep abreast of advances in areas of interest, thereby enabling more effective interactions with researchers.
- Good growth potential.
