Argonne National Laboratory Postdoctoral Appointee - MSD Midwest Integrated Center for Computational Materials (MICCoM) in Lemont, Illinois

The Midwest integrated center for computational materials (MICCoM, http://miccom-center.org) is looking for two postdoctoral researchers to join the development teams located at Argonne National Laboratory. The positions are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy within the context of a broad project aimed at enabling exascale calculations of materials properties. The postdoctoral researchers will primarily work with Prof. G. Galli, Prof. F.Gygi, Dr. M. Govoni, Dr. Y. Wenzhe and with a team of 10+ PhDs/postdocs contributing to the development of codes currently supported by MICCoM ( http://miccom-center.org/software.html ).

Excellent candidates are sought with experience in the development of complex scientific software architectures to support the development and deployment of MICCoM codes on pre- and exascale architectures. The candidate will work with the electronic structure code WEST (http://west-code.org) and/or molecular dynamics code Qbox ( http://qboxcode.org ) and will be also involved in using these codes to study complex heterogeneous materials

Position Requirements

A strong background in computational condensed matter physics and/or materials chemistry is required, including density functional theory and many-body perturbation theory. Previous experience with first-principles materials simulation codes (such as Quantum Espresso, Qbox, WEST) is preferred. In addition:

  • A PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or a related field of research; received within the last 3 years or upcoming year.

  • Proficient in C++ and/or Fortran

  • Knowledge of Python

  • Experience with CPU & GPU programming

  • Experience in algorithm optimization and parallel programming (MPI, OpenMP)

  • Experience in professional software development (including version control systems, issue trackers, unit testing, continuous integration)

  • Experience with debugging/profiling tools

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

The positions will be under the direction of Prof. Giulia Galli and will be in close collaboration with Dr. Y.Wenzhe who will co-supervise the projects. Further information on research activities of the MICCoM center are available at https://miccom-center.org/ .
