Argonne National Laboratory Postdoctoral Appointee - NST Computer Vision for Materials Imaging in Lemont, Illinois

The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) ( https://www.anl.gov/cnm ) at Argonne National Laboratory (near Chicago, USA) has an immediate postdoctoral opening on computer vision for materials imaging. The postdoctoral researchers will work on developing and applying computer vision algorithms and software, used in conjunction with atomistic simulations, to accelerate the analysis of state-of-the-art microscopy images (including electron microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, and ultrafast electron microscopy). The postdoctoral researchers will be collaborating extensively with microscopists, theorists, and computer scientists at Argonne and elsewhere.

  • describe your previous experience with materials microscopy simulation/analysis;

  • describe your experience with machine learning/computer vision;

Position Requirements

  • A PhD in Computational Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field. Degree must have been received within the last 3 years or upcoming year.

  • Solid communication and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment is expected.

  • Software programming experience is required.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Applicants should have expertise in some of the following:

  • Simulation and/or analysis of materials microscopy data, e.g. electron microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy.

  • Use of machine learning and/or computer vision approaches

  • Development and implementation of algorithms and software

  • High-performance and parallel computing
