Responsible to perform synchrotron-based in-situ/operando diffraction measurements on multivalent battery materials as part of the Joint Center for Energy Storage. Develops new experimental strategies including sample environments. Research will be primarily focused on determination structure/property relationships and characterization of long-range defects and the formation thereof during synthesis in multivalent cathode, anode, and solid electrolyte materials. Participates in meetings of JCESR, publishes results in referred journals and reports on conferences. The project is based in the Structural Science group at the APS. The majority of the experiments will focus on high-resolution powder diffraction at 11-BM.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Considerable: Background in structural analysis using crystallographic methods. Strong experimental skills as necessary for synchrotron measurements. Knowledge of inorganic materials and structure and powder diffraction.
Good: Knowledge of Rietveld refinement, pair distribution function analysis, single-crystal diffraction techniques, small-angle scattering, spectroscopy, and/or electrochemistry.
