The Accelerator Systems Division is seeking a post-doctoral appointee in accelerator beam dynamics to support cavity-based X-ray FEL (CBXFEL) R&D, an ambitious project launched recently as an ANL-SLAC collaboration to test some critical aspects of both the X-ray FEL oscillator (XFELO) and X-ray regenerative amplifier (XRAFEL). You will mainly provide theoretical and numerical analyses of the XFELO part of the project, working to identify and resolve issues in designing the test configuration, participating in the experiments, and interpreting the data. While working on the CBXFEL project, you will also participate in our efforts to advance the design of an operating XFELO in the future.

Requirements:

  • A solid background in science, with a PhD in physics or a related field.
  • Experience in computational physics, and some familiarity with parallel computing.

Desirables:

  • Experience with numerical coding languages such as C, C++, and python.
  • Knowledge in the theory of accelerator physics, radiation generation, and/or collective phenomena
  • Some knowledge of X-ray optics and coherence properties
  • The ability to publish, present, and promote new insights and results.
  • The ability to interact and actively collaborate with both mentors and students.
