The Medium Energy Physics Group in the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites you to apply for a postdoctoral position beginning winter/spring 2019 to contribute to Argonne’s Trace Radioisotope Analysis Center (TRACER).
The current focus of TRACER is to perform trace radio krypton isotopic analysis for a broad range of scientific applications and to further develop the atom trap trace analysis (ATTA) technique. ATTA is an efficient and selective atom counting method based on laser cooling and trapping and it is specialized to analyze trace noble gas radioisotopes.
The Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory has an active and broad-ranging program at the intersection of nuclear and atomic physics including: the search for the atomic electric dipole moment of radium-225, a weak interaction study using laser trapped helium-6 atoms, and a high-resolution laser spectroscopy experiment to measure the nuclear charge radius of boron-8.
We expect you to have:
- Ph.D. in atomic physics, nuclear physics, geophysics, hydrology, or a related field.
- Experience in fields such as atomic laser-cooling and trapping, development and application of hydrological instrumentation, or isotope geochemistry is preferred.
The position is initially for one (1) year, with the possibility of extension for up to three (3) years, depending on funding and performance. After applying at the following url: https://www.anl.gov/hr/postdoctoral-applicantsa>, please email a CV and brief statement of research interests to Michael Bishof (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Peter Mueller (email@example.com>) and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same address. Applications should be received before February 15th, 2019, although applicants will be considered until the position is filled.
