The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) ( https://www.anl.gov/cnm ) at Argonne National Laboratory (near Chicago, USA) has an immediate postdoctoral opening on computer vision for materials imaging. The postdoctoral researcher will work on developing and applying computer vision algorithms and software to accelerate the analysis of state-of-the-art microscopy images (including electron microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, ultrafast electron microscopy, and synchrotron-x-ray scanning tunneling microscopy). The postdoctoral researcher will be collaborating extensively with microscopists, theorists, and computer scientists at Argonne and elsewhere.

Applicants should have expertise in some of the following:

  • Simulation and/or analysis of materials microscopy data, e.g. x-ray spectroscopy, electron microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy.
  • Use of machine learning and/or computer vision approaches
  • Development and implementation of algorithms and software
  • High-performance and parallel computing

We expect you to have:

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment.
  • Software programming experience is required.
  • A PhD in computational physics, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field, obtained within the past three years, is required.
  • Postdoctoral appointments are on a one-year basis, with a maximum term of three years, subject to performance evaluation. Reviews of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled.
