The incumbent will support the project Principal Investigator in designing, performing and analyzing experiments to be conducted on a single-cylinder research engine. The research will be focused on testing of advanced gasoline combustion concepts and alternative, gaseous fuels. Plan, schedule, prepare and perform engine experiments on a single-cylinder research engine. Collect experimental data including emissions results, cylinder pressure data and related information.

Post-process and analyze experimental data with particular focus on engine efficiency, combustion behavior and emissions impact. Prepare presentations/graphs that show the potential of the evaluated techniques for internal discuss. Support the PI in preparing documents that summarize the research, progress and results for the project sponsors as well as for publication purposes. Maintain current knowledge of developments in the transportation field, particularly with engines, transportation energy, and environmental issues.

All activities will be executed in compliance with ESH responsibilities established by ANL's ESH policies, work rules, and safe practices, as they apply to work performed by the incumbent or personnel under supervision.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience/Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field

Additional Requirements:

1.Good knowledge of internal combustion engines and engine testing.

2.Good knowledge of data acquisition systems and emissions equipment.

3.Some knowledge of transportation technologies, energy use, and environmental impacts of transportation.

4.Good skill using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

5.Good skills in oral and written communications.

6.Good skill in working in a team environment.

This level of knowledge and skill is typically achieved through a M.S. degree in engineering.
