We invite you to apply for a Radiochemist position with our Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies (CFC) Division. In this role, you will perform a leading role, as group leader, in the development of radiochemical processes for treatment of used nuclear fuel and separation of medical radioisotopes from target materials. You will also:

  • Understand, elucidate, develop and practice the chemical separations necessary to achieve the desired radioactive products.
  • Serve as technical expert for the Division and Laboratory in the area of radiochemistry and chemical separations as applied to the nuclear fuel cycle and medical isotope production systems.
  • Provide administrative oversight of staff within the Radiochemistry group.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of separation processes with emphasis on aqueous chemistry, ion exchange, electrochemistry and solvent extraction. In particular, considerable knowledge of the aqueous chemistry of medical isotopes and actinides is desired.
  • Skills in laboratory methods and equipment design for handling and counting radioactive isotopes.
  • Considerable communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Skill in managing projects, research staff and resources effectively.
  • Skill in promoting teamwork and experience working in a team environment.
  • Skills in developing engineered processing unit operations from laboratory data and converting process requirements to a laboratory R&D plan.
  • Skill at designing and scaling up equipment to meet production needs.
  • Knowledge of other nuclear fuel processing techniques.
  • Skills in mentoring research staff.
  • Bachelor`s Degree and 12+ years work experience, or Master`s Degree and 7+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 6+ years or their equivalents. This level of knowledge and skill is typically achieved through a combination of studies in both chemical engineering and chemistry.
