The position is seeking candidates to take the scientific lead of the high-speed micro tomography program at beamline 2-BM and it is expected to carry his/her activities in close collaboration with the other members of IMG. The position involves research in synchrotron-based full field imaging and x-ray tomography to be carried out independently and in support of APS user scientific programs. Responsibilities include: developing R&D activities, conceiving, designing and implementing synchrotron equipment and scientific software in support of the Imaging Group tomography program; coordinating engineers and support staff assigned to the project; reporting project progress status and relevant results in the appropriate form.

RD2 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and 5+ years, or Master’s and 3+ years, or Doctorate and 0 years of research experience related to x-ray imaging, where a strong component of the qualification includes knowledge of x-ray techniques and instrumentation development with a preference for tomography and full field imaging techniques.
  • Experience in designing or leading x-ray experiments and in constructing and/or operating beamlines and providing user support in an x-ray user facility
  • Significant Python programming experience or similar skills and a willingness to contribute to the development of APS data analysis tools in an open-source, collaborative environment.

RD3 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and 8+ years, Master’s and 5+ years, or Doctorate and 4+ years of research experience related to x-ray imaging, where a strong component of the qualification includes knowledge of x-ray tomography and imaging techniques and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge and experience in designing or leading full field imaging or x-ray tomography experiments and in the development and application of algorithms related to x-ray tomography with significant Python programming experience or similar.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability to interact effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, technical staff, and users
