Argonne National Laboratory Technician I - Accelerator Operator in Lemont, Illinois

As an Accelerator Operator, you will assist with the operation of accelerator systems. Assist in diagnosing and fixing simple problems affecting accelerator performance. Operations are accomplished via computer workstations. Maintain on-shift logs documenting performance and unusual behavior of equipment. Maintain knowledge and awareness of operating conditions, procedures, and policies. Notify technical groups when hands on repairs are required and coordinate work when started.

* This job requires constant shift work on a five week rotation*

Position Requirements

  • TECH 1: High School Diploma or equivalent with two years relevant experience.

  • Interest, willingness, and ability to learn the procedures and operations associated with operating a particle accelerator and electron storage ring (Training covers everything from the fundamentals to qualification but is largely self-paced)

  • Initiative and self-discipline are necessary to complete the training program in the time allotted.

  • Some knowledge of physics and electrical theory are a plus.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

  • Understand, value, and promote diversity.
